Care instructions polycarbonate
To ensure the longevity and clarity of your polycarbonate products, it is important to use proper cleaning procedures. Polycarbonate is a tough material, but it can be damaged by improper care. Please follow these guidelines to keep your polycarbonate in top condition.
Care instructions for polycarbonate
SICURTEC glasses
To avoid damaging the polycarbonate during cleaning, please observe the following care instructions:
- Polycarbonate has a non-porous surface that dirt can hardly adhere to. Dusty parts can be wiped off with water, a soft cloth or a sponge, never rub dry!
- For thorough cleaning, we recommend using a non-abrasive cleaning agent. Razor blades or other sharp tools, abrasive or highly alkaline cleaning agents, solvents, leaded petrol and carbon tetrachloride must not be used.
- A microfiber cloth moistened with water provides a good, largely streak-free cleaning effect. For heavier, particularly greasy, dirt, benzene-free pure petrol (white spirit, light petrol) can also be used on PCs.
- Paint splashes, grease, caulk residues, etc. can be removed before curing by gently rubbing with a soft cloth soaked in ethyl, isopropyl alcohol or petroleum ether. Rust stains can be removed with a 10% oxalic acid solution.
- All mechanical systems, e.g. with rotating brushes, scrapers, etc., are not suitable for PC, even if the brushes are supplied with plenty of washing water, the plate surface can be scratched.
- The use of corrosive cleaning agents and sharp-edged tools that could damage or scratch the surface should be avoided.
- Polycarbonate has good electrical insulation properties, which leads to electrostatic charging and dust attraction. Before treating PC panels, it is recommended to remove dirt and dust particles adhering to the surface by blowing them off with ionized air. "Dusting" using normal compressed air or a cloth does not remove the particles, but usually leads to them being relocated.
- Daily cleaning is recommended, especially for protective windows for machine tools.
Hammerglass glasses
The Hammerglass panes have a very hard surface coating made of silica oxide. When cleaning, as with conventional glass, do not use sharp tools or objects that could cause scratches.
- For daily cleaning, lukewarm water with the addition of normal washing-up liquid is recommended. Cleaning should only be carried out with soft cloths or rubber scrapers that are free of hard particles. Damage such as smearing and graffiti should be removed with solvents such as isopropanol or white spirit. Acetone should be avoided.
- As with other polymers, Hammerglass panels tend to build up static electricity. To remove this static electricity, if necessary, the panel can be wiped down with a solution of ordinary fabric softener and water immediately after installation.
- Hammerglass panes do not lose their impact resistance due to weather influences for up to 10 years after the date of purchase. The light transmission of the material and the surface coating do not lose any quality characteristics for up to 5 years after the date of purchase.
