Care instructions for polycarbonate
To ensure the longevity and clarity of your polycarbonate products, it is important to apply the correct cleaning procedures. Polycarbonate is a robust material, but it can be damaged by improper care. Please follow these guidelines to keep your polycarbonate in perfect condition.
Care Instructions for Polycarbonate
SICURTEC glasses
To avoid damaging the polycarbonate during cleaning, please observe the following care instructions:
- Polycarbonate has a non-porous surface, making it difficult for dirt to adhere. Dusty parts can be wiped with water, a soft cloth, or sponge; never rub dry!
- For thorough cleaning, we recommend using a non-abrasive cleaning agent.Razor blades or other sharp tools, abrasive or strongly alkaline cleaning agents, solvents, leaded gasoline, and carbon tetrachloride must not be used.
- A good, largely streak-free cleaning effect is achieved with a microfiber cloth that is only moistened with water. For stronger, particularly greasy dirt, benzene-free cleaning gasoline (wash gasoline, light gasoline) can also be used for PC.
- Paint splashes, grease, sealant residues, etc. can be removed before curing by gently rubbing with a soft cloth soaked in ethyl, isopropyl alcohol, or petroleum ether. Rust stains can be removed with a 10% oxalic acid solution.
- All mechanical systems, z.B. with rotating brushes, scrapers, etc., are not suitable for PC; even when ample wash water is supplied to the brushes, the surface of the plates can be scratched.
- The use of caustic cleaning agents and sharp-edged tools that could damage or scratch the surface should be avoided.
- Polycarbonate has good electrical insulation properties, which leads to electrostatic charging and dust attraction. Before treating PC sheets, it is advisable to remove dirt and dust particles adhering to the surface by blowing them off with ionized air. "Dusting" with regular compressed air or a cloth does not remove the particles but usually leads to their relocation.
- Especially for protective windows for machine tools, daily cleaning is recommended.
Hammerglass glasses
The Hammerglass panes are equipped with a very hard surface coating made of silica. When cleaning, as with conventional glass, no sharp tools or objects that could lead to scratches may be used.
- For daily cleaning, lukewarm water with the addition of regular dish soap is recommended. Cleaning should only be done with soft cloths or rubber scrapers that are free from hard particles. Damage such as z.B. Smudges and graffiti can be removed with solvents such as isopropanol or test gasoline. Acetone should be avoided.
- Like other polymers, Hammerglass panes tend to become statically charged. To remove this static electricity, the pane can be wiped down immediately after installation with a solution of regular fabric softener and water if necessary.
- The Hammerglass panes do not lose impact resistance due to weather influences over a period of up to 10 years from the date of purchase. The light transmittance of the material as well as the surface coating do not lose any quality characteristics over a period of up to 5 years from the date of purchase.
