6 myths about hammer glass - which we clear out of the way

Myths about Hammerglass – We clarify

At Hammerglass, we believe in clearing up misconceptions and getting the facts straight. Old beliefs and outdated information can be a hindrance, especially when it comes to innovation, safety and durability. Below, we'll break down the most persistent myths about Hammerglass to give you a clear picture of the unique properties and benefits of this material.

Myth 1: Hammerglass yellows over time

fact: NO. Hammerglass remains clear and does not yellow. While older polycarbonate variants did indeed show yellowing, Hammerglass is an exception thanks to its advanced coating and nanotechnology treatment. The smooth silicon dioxide surface offers 99.96% UV protection, which prevents yellowing.

Myth 2: Hammerglass becomes milky when cleaned

fact: NO Hammerglass's unique, smooth surface maintains its clarity even after cleaning. It is resistant to common cleaning agents, so dirt and smudges can be easily removed without affecting its transparency.

Myth 3: Hammerglass is burning

fact: NO Hammerglass is self-extinguishing, meaning if it is ignited it will extinguish itself, making it a safe choice for fire protection.

Myth 4: Hammerglass is comparable to Plexiglas

fact: NO Hammerglass and Plexiglas (a trademark for PMMA) are fundamentally different. Hammerglass is 300 times stronger than glass, while Plexiglas is about 30 times stronger than glass. Plexiglas is susceptible to scratches, can become cloudy from solvents, and will burn if ignited - not so with Hammerglass.

Myth 5: Hammerglass is comparable to acrylic plastic

fact: NO Hammerglass is also very different from acrylic plastics. It does not burn, is resistant to solvents and does not break when impacted. Although acrylic is easier to thermoform, Hammerglass retains its advantages even when subjected to special thermal deformation processes.

Myth 6: Hammerglass scratches just as easily as any other plastic

fact: NO Hammerglass' hard-coated, smooth surface is significantly more scratch-resistant than traditional plastics. Although it may develop minor scratches over time with heavy use, it is much more resistant to scratches than acrylic or plexiglass. We hope this information helps you better understand the unique characteristics and value of Hammerglass.
