Protective glass for railways - Hammerglass
In collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration, Hammerglass AB has manufactured a modern electrical canopy structure for covering overhead lines, replacing the old sheet metal protective covers. The electrical shield is designed to withstand snow and wind loads, as well as the wind load from passing trains. Hammerglass's hard and smooth surface treatment helps ensure that dirt and dust are, in most cases, washed off the roof structure by rain. The surface treatment also provides 99.96 percent UV protection, meaning the material will not cloud, discolor, or undergo any other change in its optical quality over time.
A 12 millimeter LIFESAVER
Protective shields save lives. In the vicinity of high-voltage and overhead lines, there is always a risk of electrical accidents resulting in serious personal injury. The roof structure, made of shatter-resistant hammer-glass, complies with electrical safety guidelines for electrical protective roof structures installed on bridges over railway tracks. The structure blends into the surroundings while simultaneously forming a solid barrier against live lines.
- 12 mm hammer glass, mounted on a system of angle posts bolted to the sides of the bridge edge girder
- Solid barrier against live conductors
- Waterproof and tamper-proof
- Strength calculation taking into account snow and wind loads as well as wind loads from trains
- Meets the requirements for noise barriers set out in CE standard EN-14388
- Execution class EXC2 or EXC3
- Can be mounted as a splash guard at road intersections
Construction and assembly
The canopy structure consists of 12 mm thick Hammer Glass, mounted on a system of angled posts that are bolted to the sides of the bridge edge girder. During bridge renovations or new construction projects, the angled post with a base plate is mounted below the guardrail post. The roof structure is fatigue-tested by simulating snow and wind loads, as well as the wind load from passing trains, and also meets the requirements for noise barriers specified in the CE standard EN-14388. The solution is waterproof and tamper-proof and can be manufactured to execution class EXC2 or EXC3. We can handle complete projects from the dismantling of existing protective structures to the installation of a new electrical canopy in Hammer Glass. Our designers provide ready-made drawings with fastening solutions in the form of DWG files.
